for her

to memorize

the transition

She'll need

to believe

that

saying

the

same thing

louder

makes it correct

that

saying

it over

and

over again

makes it true

that

others

who

do not

understand

what

she is saying

are stupid

that

if you have

more money

you get

to do

whatever

you want

and

you get

to tell

other people

what

to do

too

that

the

lighter

the

shade

of your skin

the

less scary

you are

that

just because

you are

of the

human species

you are

entitled

to wreak

havoc

of any kind

on

Mother Earth

and on any

and all

of her

beloved species

causing

unspeakable

suffering

chaos

devastation

agony

with impunity

She

will need

to know

that by virtue

merely

of changing

species

she will have acquired

the right

indeed the obligation

to consider

her own

former species

insignificant

She

will be

welcome

to

humanity

All living life forms

are descendants

of those

who lived

long before

So far

it seems

no cataclysm

has depopulated

the whole world

Homo sapiens

has been operating

under the assumption

that this is

status quo

a given

to be taken

for granted

Evolution

natural selection

is supposed to work

for the good

and

by the best actions

of all beings

but H. sapiens

has

corrupted the process

of natural selection

for species caught

in our violent wake

H. sapiens

has lost sight

of

or was always oblivious

to

all species'

elaborate and complex

dependency

on

one another

Planet Earth

has tried

to remind

us

We dare

to ignore

her

Worse

we dare

to defy

her

Worst

we dare

to disdain

her

to hold her

in contempt

Incorrigible

arrogance

avariciousness

egomania

selfishness

What's a planet

to do

What about

removing us

from the mix

Evolution

has

always

self-corrected

The End of the World

No

 The departure

of Homo sapiens

 

does not mean

 

the end of the world

 

 A greatly relieved

 

Planet Earth

 

with its

 

beleaguered species 

 

will continue 

 

to spin on its axis 

 

quite nicely 

 

after Homo sapiens 

 

is gone

 

 

 

Conclusions 

 

may be drawn 

 

after 

 

one hundred fifty thousand years 

 

of (unimproved) behavior 

 

of a species

 

 The brightest among us

 

have discovered

 

how to kill all of us

 

comparatively quickly

and that means

 

every single member

 

of

 

every single species

 

on

 

Planet Earth

 

and

 

who-knows-which

 

neighboring planets

 

 

In

 

one hundred fifty thousand years

 

we have learned how

 

to kill

 

greater numbers

 

faster

 

over greater territory

 

 We are equally adept

 

at destruction of

 

land 

 

sea 

 

and air

 

 No species is safe

 

from our

 

ruthless

 

relentless

 

ravening

 

onslaught

 

 Stop

 

 

 Do not sing "Imagine"

 

 

The people who see

 

what is before their eyes

 

will accomplish more

 

for those who still live

 

than the people

 

who are singing "Imagine"

 

 

 As the last surviving

 

member of Homo sapiens

 

dies

 

will the species of Earth

 

join

 

paws

 

fins

 

branches

 

wings

 

hooves 

 

petals

 

flippers

 

legs

 

tails

 

for a joyful rendition of

 

"Kumbaya?"
